Description
A box of miscellaneous materials relating to the Blackheath Concert Hall, including printed correspondence and announcements and the following handbills, programmes and brochures for performances given at the venue between 1892 and 1992, including the prospectus and programmes from the Greenwich Festival of 30 May- 15 June 1986.
Also, programmes for two Blackheath Hall Gala Concerts, given on 24 May 1985 and 22 March 1986 at St. John's Smith Square and in the Great Hall of Goldsmiths' College, and a prospectus for a Mozart Bicentennial Celebration given between November 1990 and April 1991.
1. Greenwich Festival
Individual programmes are held for the following dates, all with notes and biographical notes, some with photographs.
31 May 1986: Meridian Chamber Orchestra and Choir, directed by Stephen Dagg.
2 June 1986: Dade Krame.
3 June 1986: National Centre for Orchestral Studies, conducted by Edward Gregson and Philip Simms (with a list of the orchestral ensemble).
4 June 1986: English and Italian Music of the 17th Century with Emma Kirby (soprano), David Thomas (bass) and Anthony Rooley (lute).
5 June 1986: Jazz Night with the Stan Tracey Quartet.
6 June 1986: Barry Douglas (piano).
12 June 1986: Music for Voice and Double Bass by Jane Manning (soprano) and Barry Guy (double bass), including the first performance of Edward Harper, Caterwaul.
12 June 1986: The Chamber Players of St John's.
2. Miscellaneous Blackheath Hall concerts
In addition to the handbills/programmes listed below, the collection includes mounted handbills/newspaper advertisements for concerts given on 30 June 1896 (Madame Chaminade), 17 April 1897 (Blackethiopian [sic] Minstrels) and Friday 12 May [1933] (Pinkie and the Fairies by pupils of Mrs Grant). Also, a photocopy of the programme for the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music First Subscription Concert, given on 26 October [1909].

Thursday 28 November [no year]: Evening Concert (mounted handbill).
25 May 1892, Rink Hall, Blackheath: Grand Evening Concert by Miss Kentish Moore (mounted handbill).
22 February 1909: Alfred Burnett Testimonial Concert with Mr Plunket Greene and Miss Verena Fancourt (vocal) and Leonard Borwick (piano), conducted by Burnet (with words, notes and lists of the Stewards and of the orchestral ensemble).
17-19 February 1921: Trial by Jury and H.M.S. Pinaforte performed by the Utopian Operatic Society (single document).
15 December 1985: Medici Quartet (with programme notes and notes on the venue).

5-7 April 1991: Images of Schubert presented by The Music Forum, driected by Roger Vignoles (single document with biographical notes, plus a leaflet).
12 and 13 October 1991: Verdi, Ernani presented by Amici di Verdi (single document w with notes, biographical notes and photographs).
26 November 1991: Inaugural Recital of the Prokofiev Foundation given by Boris Berman (piano) (with notes, biographical notes and photographs).
22 December 1991: Special Performance of Handel, Messiah, with Master Rory O'Connor, Miss Linda Hirst, Mr Ian Partridge and Mr David Thomas, with assistance from members of the Thomas Tallis Society Choir and Orchestra, conducted by Philip Simms (with notes, biographical notes and photographs).
7 June 1992: The Orchestra at Blackheath Inaugural Concert with Barnaby Robson (clarinet), conducted by Rupert Bond (with notes, biographical notes, musical examples and a list of the orchestral ensemble).
3. Non-Blackheath Hall venues
24 May 1985 and 22 March 1986, St. John's Smith Square/Great Hall, Goldsmiths' College: Gala Concert for the Blackheath Halls given by the National Centre for Orchestral Studies, conducted by George Hurst/Volker Wangenheim (with notes, notes on the Halls, biographical notes, photographs and a list of the orchestral ensemble).
